A Gift For You. Exclusive Icontrolpad Pics!

Posted by zodttd, Dec 21 2008, 10:12 PM in Apple News

ZodTTD here. I realize I've been very quiet as of late. Not to worry, as I'll be coming back full force as the holidays roll past. It would be hard for me to back without a gift though...

A gamepad adapter for the iPhone is on it's way! The iControlPad team was kind enough to send ZodTTD.com an exclusive picture of their final prototype before mass production. The actual product will be black instead of white as shown. It's real and it's coming!

I really appreciate people sticking by us here at ZodTTD.com and I hope news of an iPhone (and a soon to come iPod Touch) gamepad on it's way to production is exactly what is needed to cheer everyone up. With the iControlPad comes a lot of emulators and updates from ZodTTD too! wink.gif

Thanks,
ZodTTD

Important Update Made To Doom For Iphone & Itouch!

Posted by zodttd, Nov 30 2008, 03:42 PM in Apple News

It came to my attention that some changes and bug fixes were needed in Doom for iPhone and iPod Touch. I have implemented these changes in the new Doom v1.1.0 available on Cydia in the Games section.

New in v1.1.0:

  • Added a rudimentary change weapon button to replace the unneeded top left turn button. The button simply rotates through each weapon (1 through up to 9). It currently is not a "next weapon" button as it attempts to switch to that weapon slot, and not the next slot with a loaded weapon.
  • Fixed the movement speed to match Doom for the PC. The game can now be played much easier as it was moving too fast before.
  • Fixed the saving & loading of games. Games are currently saved to /Applications/Doom.app/saves/
  • Fixed the lack of a backwards motion. Now if you tilt the device down, it moves backwards, as intended.
  • Fixed the lack of speed settings. Now based on how far you tilt the device, the speed key gets enabled.

That's all for now. Whew! Keep the feedback coming!

We're DOOMed!

Doom For Iphone And Ipod Touch! Get It On The Zodttd Cydia Repo!

Posted by zodttd, Nov 30 2008, 01:45 AM in Apple News

I've been sick for over a week, and today was the first day of me feeling well again. I realize I have a lot of work to do, such as fixing up the mess caused by the snes4iphone 3.0 beta.

But today I felt it was time to get Doom out publicly! Steven Stroughton Smith ( of iPhoneDoom ) and I ( of ZodTTD.com wink.gif ) have been working on and off on Doom for the past few weeks. I implemented sound, fixed some critical bugs, and then saw this on toucharcade.com:

QUOTE
id Software CEO Todd Hollenshead recently contacted us regarding homebrew maverick ZodTTD’s announcement that he would be bringing a Quake port to the App Store. Hollenshead informed us that ZodTTD’s port would be illegal and not sanctioned by the company and, as such, not allowed in the App Store.

Needless to say, I was saddened to hear Apple's reasoning for keeping my Quake submission "In Review" for AppStore since October 31st. It however made the choice clear to bring Doom to homebrew iPhone and iPod Touch users.

Doom on the iPhone and iPod Touch, while still a work in progress, is shaping up well. It supports the retail/commercial WAD (game data) files for Doom 1 and Doom 2, assuming you provide them. Constructive feedback is greatly welcome.

More detailed instructions and videos of it in action coming soon! Meanwhile, hop on Cydia and grab the "Doom" package in the "Games" section!

A huge thanks to Steven Stroughton Smith for his work and collaboration! Thanks to iDoom as well!

New Version Of Snes4iphone! Version 3.0.0 Beta!

Posted by zodttd, Nov 24 2008, 09:59 PM in Apple News

I worked on snes4iphone, as was voted on in my weekly "what should Zod do this weekend". Thanks for voting everyone! smile.gif

I decided to release snes4iphone v3.0.0 as a beta as there are some changes that will need to be refined. First up in the change list are snesadvance.dat speedhacks are now properly loaded. This is a double edged sword though as it can speed up some games, yet break others. If you find a game that no longer works with v3.0.0, you may want to check /Applications/snes4iphone.app/snesadvance.dat and remove the game from the list and retry it. Please let me know if you find a snesadvance.dat speedhack that isn't working with snes4iphone.

I also have implemented a much better auto-frameskip. It will try it's hardest to keep you at 60 FPS (or 50 FPS if PAL).

The sad reality is currently enabling sound in snes4iphone cuts the max framerate by about half, sometimes more. With sound disabled games will run well beyond their intended framerate, and framelimiting is used. But with sound enabled, even with the frameskip in place some games just hit 50 FPS. My recommendation is to run the game with sound, see if it's playable, and if not run it again without sound. That is, unless you don't use sound when running snes4iphone which I highly recommend running without sound. Whew! tongue.gif

I will be looking into optimizing the code more soon. It was tough to get this work done as I've been sick. Once I feel better I have some ideas to try for snes4iphone.

Want to give it a go? Make sure you're registered and subscribed as a ZodTTD Beta Tester here. Already a beta tester? Hop on Cydia and be sure to give feedback! smile.gif

Thanks,

Jailbreak Your 2.2 Firmware! Downloads Included.

Posted by zodttd, Nov 22 2008, 10:11 PM in Apple News

The official devteam has done it again! This time bringing you a 2.2 firmware jailbreak!

BigBoss provided the following tips which I too will stress:

  • If you have a 3G iPhone and want potential soft unlock in the near future do NOT use QuickPwn, and do not use the official ipsw or the iTunes update process without using PwnageTool.
  • The ‘late 2008’ MacBook/air/pro line of computers have an issue with DFU mode, it is possible to go from Pwned 2.1 -> 2.2 but going from stock to Pwned does not work, if in any doubt use a different machine.
Direct download links available right here:
  • iPhone Firmware 2.2 is here
  • iPod Touch Gen1 Firmware 2.2 is for sale by Apple and cannot be linked to
  • PwnageTool 2.2 for Mac OS X is here SHA1 Sum - 97ee6096aaa1967498431bf01c36c18d0e877545

A Beta Of Gpsphone V3.0.0 Released!

Posted by zodttd, Nov 22 2008, 03:07 AM in ZodTTD Editorials

Although I've been sick all day today, I managed to fix the bug stopping me from updating gpSPhone. Then something truly awesome happened... I noticed I was clearing the instruction cache in gpSPhone's dynarec incorrectly.

Performance has been vastly improved due to this fix!

You may have noticed in previous versions of gpSPhone that games would seem to have improved performance after doing similar routines over and over again. This was due to the instruction cache of the dynarec being cleared incorrectly and now that it's fixed, you should have much smoother gameplay.

Both landscape and portrait modes are included and I've fixed a few bugs, implemented multitouch, and fixed the controller issue with Metroid Fusion.

What's the catch? Well sound playback has gaps in it, but I believe it's due to my code for handling those odd pauses in gameplay described above. I will get that worked on. I removed the bookmarks option as it really didn't seem to be used. What may be a dealbreaker though, is the removal of the options panel. This is temporary though. In the meantime I suggest using the volume controls on your iPhone/iPod to control volume. I want to have a good way of inputting cheatcodes before I make a release with the options screen.

As a special treat to my beta testers, I've given you early access to gpSPhone v3.0.0. So if you've sign(ed) up to be a ZodTTD beta tester by donating, I recommend you try this build out! If not, it's a short wait til it goes public.

Time to check my what-to-do-weekend poll!

Forums On The Go? Most Def!

Posted by zodttd, Nov 21 2008, 10:52 AM in Website News

Using the ZodTTD.com forums on your iPhone and iPod Touch just got a whole lot easier!

I've added a special theme for the forums (frontpage and blogs not included) that allow you to easily browse and post. The theme is automatically used when browsing from an iPhone or iPod Touch. If you need a specific browser user agent added to the autodetect routine, let me know.

While I'm not quite sure why this has been requested so often, I'm glad I added this as it looks great.

See you on the forums,

Fan Made Tutorials!

Posted by zodttd, Nov 21 2008, 10:06 AM in ZodTTD Editorials

For those who are not familiar with emulation, it can be tedious work to go through FAQs, blog posts, and forum entries to figure out how to get my software up and running. Sometimes a video tutorial is the best way to see exactly how it's done.

One of our very own members, AAD92, was kind enough to make the following video tutorial on getting gpSPhone up and running from start to finish.

Those who make video tutorials of my software available on public sites such as YouTube, please private message me with a link to your video and I will upgrade you to beta tester status.

If your video is well done, I will showcase it right here on my blog. Take a look at AAD92's video to see what you're up against. wink.gif

In what will now be a weekly segment here at ZodTTD.com, I am adding a poll here. The poll will let readers here choose from a list of things I'd like to get done each weekend. The top item(s) of the list will get worked on. This should allow me to organize my work schedule better, and get things you want done accomplished.

This poll lacks the choice for updates on gpSPhone and psx4iphone as I am already working on fixing some issues I have getting these two up and running with updated GUI's and patches. Also of note is the lack of systems other than the iPhone. This weekend I'm focusing on iPhone homebrew development. I have been spending this week working on Pandora handheld so I'm taking a much needed break.

Please be sure to vote, and if you have some ideas for what to add to the next poll, let me know via comments here. Lets start cranking out some quality releases for the iPhone homebrew scene!

Thanks,
ZodTTD

The Forums Are Back And So Are You!

Posted by zodttd, Nov 15 2008, 05:22 AM in Website News

I've been listening to the feedback of the bbPress forums. It was a resounding failure. But luckily I had trick up my sleeve. I have carried over your existing vBulletin forum user information to a new, nice, and expensive forum software. And thanks to my trusty moderators, I now have cleaned up much of the useless posts and leftover spam. If you haven't registered yet, now is the time.

Hop on the new forums and give them a whirl. Get your avatars and signatures in sync. As an added bonus, those who make numerous relevant and useful posts to the forum will automatically be upgraded to beta tester status.

I've been adding quite a lot to the site and hopefully it will start to really show soon. Rest assured this software will stay.

Thanks for the great feedback,
ZodTTD
